There are some people who make you want to be a better person. They do it in an uncomfortable manner; they make you embarrassed of doing certain things. And that’s a good thing. Don’t put these people in the “I don’t care what people think” category. Because these are not just any “people”. These are the ones who keep you in check and it’s because them you’ll be able to better yourself. Don’t ignore their opinions. Don’t toss them off as judgmental or jealous people (not unless they’re arrogant and actually do think they’re better than you… in which case they shouldn’t be your friends).

I like to believe God sends these people to some of us as body guards. As blessings. Appreciate your blessings. We don’t do it often enough.

If someone is genuinely concerned about you, they’re not judgmental. They’re looking out for you. If they tell you to stay away from the bad stuff, they’re looking out for your soul so it doesn’t get hurt. And so it has a fighting chance for that ticket to Jannah.

These are your real friends. Not the ones who clap and cheer at everything you do and agree with all of your opinions. Your real friends are those who keep you from straying, who slap you when you’re being stupid, who take hold of your shoulders and shake you awake.

And don’t take them for granted. Because the day those friends leave you, you’ve not only lost some friends but probably also yourself.
